’65 Epiphone Olympic SB722
I got this thing almost accidentally! It came from Arlington, TX Guitar center and was on sale for $350. They screwed my shipping up three times, and ended up refunding me $50 from the price, $20 for the shipping and were going to give me $50 in store credit, but they screwed that up too and gave me only $44. Not too shabby!
This guitar has THE BEST neck of any instrument I have ever owned.
According to the shipping graph below, no Cherries should have shipped in ’65. BUT, according to Provide.Net, the serial number dates this to ’65. Record keeping was not very good at Gibson, especially before ’76… I believe it’s a ’65 based on the pot codes and the serial.
The output on the pickup measures about 7.9k Ohm, which is pretty hot for a little single coil. It gets dirty when you drive it, though it cleans up quite nicely. It’s like a Gibson made Esquire, in a sense.
